Three Haiku to the Canadian Shield

by Gord Sellar

great forests, filled with
boreal loneliness. voices
speak there but no words

old, reeling green gods
great boughs lash windswept storm song
roots drink drumming rain

snow falls; reaching deep
roots curl against bedrock: still
nude bough strives for sun
